Terms and Conditions

The competition is open to residents of the UK only. All applicants must be 18 or over; be eligible for working in the UK and for worldwide travel; have no former convictions that will make travel difficult; or have any commitments that will prevent the winner from travelling over the 12 months they are employed by lowcostholidays.com. Anyone professionally connected in any way with lowcostholidays.com is unable to be considered for this competition.

Closing date for submissions of the Travel CV and audition video is midnight on 16 April 2010.

Audition videos must be no longer than two minutes long, otherwise we will not be able to consider the entry. If applicants have any problems uploading their audition video online, they will need to send it, along with their Travel CV, by post to The Big Search, lowcostholidays.com, Sussex House, London Road, East Grinstead, West Sussex, RH19 1HH and we will upload the entry for them. Unfortunately we will not be able to return the original materials sent to us.

If the audition is uploaded via the internet, an original copy must be kept in case the applicant is selected as a finalist.

All applicants must create an original video that does not contain or infringe the intellectual property rights and/or privacy of a third party. The full consent must have been obtained from any other person featured in the audition video. The applicant will be liable for any costs incurred if they fail to obtain the necessary consent.

All videos will be uploaded using YouTube and will therefore be moderated by YouTube and lowcostholidays.com in respect of inappropriate content or breach of any relevant terms and conditions. lowcostholidays.com and YouTube have the absolute discretion to upload or not upload any audition video and to remove any video already uploaded without giving reasons for the decision.

Inappropriate content includes the use of offensive or malicious content, nudity, or abuse of copyright laws by using content that requires permission to use.

lowcostholidays.com may copy, alter and distribute the uploaded films as they wish at anytime, anywhere and by any means, this includes passing the auditions onto third parties to do the same. By entering the competition, you are granting lowcostholidays.com permission to have exclusive use of the video for whatever purpose to the extent permitted by applicable law.

The public will be invited to rate their favourite audition videos on www.lowcostholidaysbigsearch.com via a five-point ratings system. Public ratings and number of views will be taken into consideration by our panel of judges when selecting the top 10 finalists.

All eligible entries received by 16 April 2010 will be judged by the panel which will include at least two people not connected in any way with lowcostholidays.com.

The judges will select the top 10 finalists on the basis of the entries that are the most popular, entertaining and creative, and who are deemed most suitable to be the face of lowcostholidays.com.

The top 10 finalists will be notified before the announcing date and informed of the next steps and activities they need to be ready to undertake between 17 May 2010 and 11 June 2010. The finalists must be able to take time out during this time to help promote themselves to the public with the help of lowcostholidays.com. During this month, we will provide the finalists with a budget of £200 to help with travel expenses and materials used to help promote themselves regionally. We will not cover any expense over this amount but will endeavour to help where we can in regards to resources.

There will be one final winner selected by the public in June via a voting system. The results of the votes will not be made available throughout the competition, although can be made available if requested once the winner has been announced.

The selected winner shall be contacted at the earliest possible opportunity to ensure that they wish to accept the prize offering.

In the case of the winner being unable to confirm acceptance of the prize or cannot be contacted, lowcostholidays.com reserves the right to cancel prize entitlement and award the prize to a reserve selected at the same time as the original.

lowcostholidays.com will not enter into any discussion regarding the winners or the decision on the final winner.

What you will get

The winner will be employed by lowcostholidays.com on a contract basis for a fixed term of one year. We will pay a total of £20,000 gross per year monthly in arrears, provided the winner remains available to carry out any reasonable tasks by lowcostholidays.com during the 12-month period. The winner will be responsible for declaring these earnings in order to pay the required tax, and lowcostholidays.com will not be held responsible for any earnings that are not declared to the relevant tax authorities.

Employment with lowcostholidays.com will start immediately following the announcement of the winner, and the winner will therefore need to able to start immediately. The successful candidate will need to have made allowance for any notice period or other legal commitment with their existing employer.

The winner must be available to work for us on an ad hoc basis across the whole 12 months, dedicating a minimum of 25 hours a week. This work will consist of writing on their own blog; the lowcostholidays.com blog; uploading photos and videos from their holiday; responding to comments; writing Facebook and Twitter posts; and leaving reviews on lowcostholidays.com as well as other review sites. There may be the opportunity to appear in marketing materials for lowcostholidays.com throughout the 12 months, such as brochures, TV and radio, but this will be decided and confirmed at a later date.

The 12 holidays that are being offered during the 12-month period of work will be paid for by lowcostholidays.com and where possible, the winner will stay at our top-selling, all inclusive accommodation – so all food and drink will be included. Economy return flights will also be provided for the winner for all 12 holidays and, for two of the holidays, we will offer an additional seat to one friend or family member. Where the flights depart from; when, and with which airline carrier the winner travels with, will solely be the decision of lowcostholidays.com.

£200 spending money per holiday will be provided for each seven-night period to help cover activities. Any other expenses must be covered by the winner. Transfers, car hire and insurance will also be covered by lowcostholidays.com when necessary and subject to availability.

The winner will, within reason, be required to attend bars, attractions, tourist hot-spots and restaurants, and to film, take photos and feedback on his/her experiences. lowcostholidays.com, in partnership with Dixons Travel, will therefore provide a netbook, digital camera, video recorder, iPod and headphones to help deliver this work whilst abroad and at home.

The winner will be asked to undertake specific and reasonable tasks and activities as directed by lowcostholidays.com and the public for the duration of their holiday.

lowcostholidays.com will have full ownership of all the photos, videos and content produced by the winner and therefore have permission to duplicate, alter, adapt and use them as they wish at anytime, anywhere and by any means. lowcostholidays.com will also have the licence to authorise or transfer the rights in the videos and photos to others to do the same.

There is no cash substitute for this prize overall, and it cannot be changed unless lowcostholidays.com decides to at a later date.

The winner of the ‘Big Search’ will be announced on the micro site from 14 June 2010, although the winner will be notified prior to this.

By accepting the prize, the winner accepts to take part in all publicity and marketing activities associated with winning the campaign at no additional cost to lowcostholidays.com. This will include interviews with media and the use of their image in the media and on related lowcostholidays.com marketing materials, or any marketing materials and publicity of brands associated with the campaign.

Any personal information provided by the applicants, including as part of the YouTube registration and sign-in process, will only be used by lowcostholidays.com in accordance with its Privacy Policy which is accessible at http://www.lowcostholidays.com/privacypolicy.aspx.

During the application process, we may need to ask for an email address and this will only be used to contact the applicant regarding updates about the campaign, remind them if they have not completed their submission, or to inform them on getting through to the next stage. If the applicant opts in to receive email updates on the latest news and offers from lowcostholidays.com and decides, at a later date, that they would no longer like to receive these updates, they should click on the unsubscribe link available within the newsletter received.

lowcostholidays.com accepts no responsibility for entries, which due to technical problems, or problems beyond its control, fail to be received. Proof of submitting online or by post is not proof of receipt by lowcostholidays.com.

lowcostholidays.com excludes liability to the fullest extent permitted by law for any loss, damage or injury occurring to the entrant arising from his or her entry into the promotion, or occurring to the winner arising from his or her acceptance of the prize.
